2013 NFL Draft team needs: Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys were close to the playoffs in 2012, but couldn’t quite make it. What do they need to add?

The Dallas Cowboys entered the final game of the 2012 season with a chance to win the NFC East, but ended up finishing .500 for the second year in a row. They gave Tony Romo a large contract extension this offseason, but they'll need to add a lot of pieces around him if the Cowboys hope to find their way back to the playoffs.

Jerry Jones continues to serve as general manager and if he can't add the pieces the Cowboys need in the draft this year the doubts about his ability to serve in this capacity without help will only grow. There is a lot of talent on the team, but that has been the case for years. They need to round out their roster and find a way to put the pieces together.

Top three needs

Guard - Now that the Cowboys have put so much money in Tony Romo, they need to make sure he has a chance to actually sit in the pocket and throw the ball. They need help all across the offensive line with the exception of left tackle, but guard is their biggest weakness.

Defensive line - The starters are all accomplished, but will also all be over 30 by the time next season starts. They need to add promising youth behind the starters that can play significant time and take over in the near future.

Safety - Barry Church is coming off a torn Achilles and may not be starting material and Will Allen is also better suited as a backup. The Cowboys need to add a sure-fire starter at the position.

Ideal pick: Jonathan Cooper, G, North Carolina
