2013 NFL Draft team needs: Washington Redskins

They have a franchise cornerstone in Robert Griffin III, but what else do they need to add?

The Redskins overcame years of mediocrity and forced their way into the playoffs in 2012 thanks to rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. The season had a disappointing end with Griffin's injury in the playoffs. If he is healthy by the start of the season, the Redskins should contend again in 2013 and for years to come. Washington has plenty of holes on its roster that need to be addressed before the start of the season.

It will be hard for the Redskins to address all their needs in the draft, as they traded away their first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft as part of the RG3 deal. Washington had little money to work with this offseason, and hasn't been able to address team needs in free agency, meaning the 'Skins will have to be smart with their lower round draft picks.

Top three needs

Cornerback - DeAngelo Hall, E.J. Biggers, and Josh Wilson will all be free agents at the end of the 2013 season. None of them are outstanding corners. The Redskins cut Hall, but brought him back at a reduced price. They would like to add a young talent to offer them some stability in the coming years.

Safety - 2012 acquisition Brandon Meriweather missed most of the season with injuries and is currently rehabbing a torn ACL. New addition Tanard Jackson still has to be reinstated for the 2013 season after multiple substance-abuse violations and Reed Doughty is nothing to write home about.

Offensive tackle - Trent Williams had a strong season at left tackle in 2012, but the right tackle position needs an upgrade. Tyler Polumbus is the incumbent starter and will compete with a squad of backups for the starting job.
