2013 NFL mock draft: Sio Moore to Jacksonville Jaguars

The re-building Jags are in need of an immediate starter at linebacker.

After grabbing West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the No. 2 overall pick in our 2013 NFL mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are getting down to the business of finding more immediate contributors as our second round begins.

Team Player Position Height Weight Class
33. Jacksonville Jaguars Sio Moore, Connecticut LB 6'1" 245 SR

Alfie Crow: "Sio Moore can come in right away and start for the Jacksonville Jaguars at the linebacker position, playing either the SAM or WILL spot next to Paul Posluszny. Moore is a big athlete at the position, which Gus Bradley has noted to like at the linebacker spot. Moore is a big hitter who seems to cover in zone well, but can also blitz off the edge if necessary on passing downs. He should be a three-down linebacker in the Jaguars new hybrid front."

Here’s our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:

If the Jaguars are going after an athletic linebacker with this pick, they have a few options. Moore is certainly one, as is Jamie Collins of Southern Mississippi and Corey Lemonier of Auburn. From purely a pass rushing standpoint, Moore is a better choice than Collins, but not Lemonier. From an all-around standpoint, Collins is better than both. He’s considerably better in coverage than Moore, and more athletic. Moore has done well to elevate his draft stock during the offseason. He’s up 16 pounds from his listed playing weight at Connecticut, starred in the East-West Shrine Game and was added to the Senior Bowl. He’s working the system the right way to get drafted this highly.

They picked just two picks ago, but thanks to their trade of Alex Smith, the San Francisco 49ers (repped by Niners Nation) are back on the clock. The rich get richer at Noon ET.
