Report: Blake Bortles to declare for 2014 NFL Draft

Following a Fiesta Bowl win, Central Florida’s junior quarterback is set to go pro.

If momentum is a tangible thing, quarterback Blake Bortles has it after leading Central Florida to the school's first BCS win and now he'll carry with him to the NFL.

On Monday Bortles will announce his intention to enter the 2014 NFL Draft, the Orlando Sentinel first reported.

In a draft that has become light on quarterbacks after UCLA’s Brett Hundley, Oregon’s Marcus Mariota and Baylor’s Bryce Petty returned to school, Bortles has the chance to become a top 10 selection.

Bortles is the prototypical size at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds and is a good athlete for the position. He’s often compared to Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This season, Bortles completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,581 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 272 yards and six more touchdowns. His running ability was particularly on display in a Fiesta Bowl win over Baylor when he ran the ball eight times for 93 yards.

One NFL executive told Peter King of Sports Illustrated that Bortles could be the top quarterback in the draft.
