While the Super Bowl teams won’t be decided until after this weekend’s conference championship games, the crew of officials who will work the game in New Orleans has already been chosen.

Super Bowl XLVII is still more than two weeks away but the officials crew has already been chosen.

Referee Jerome Boger will lead the crew, his first Super Bowl assignment. Boger was the highest-graded official by the NFL this season, according to a report from Football Zebras. His Super Bowl appointment, however, does come with some controversy. Rules state that in order to participate in a Super Bowl, a referee must have previously officiated a conference championship game. Boger has never worked a conference championship game, but the NFL appears to have made an exception.
Boger worked 11 games during the regular season. His crew averaged 94.1 penalty yards per game, the fourth-fewest of any referee who worked at least 10 games.
The rest of the Super Bowl XLVII officiating crew consists of umpire Darrell Jenkins, head linesman Steve Stelljes, line judge Byron Boston, field judge Craig Wrolstad, side judge Joe Larrew and back judge Dino Paganelli.
