The San Francisco 49ers came back from a 17-point deficit to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 and advance to the Super Bowl for the sixth time in franchise history. Among the 49ers' biggest stars of the day was tight end Vernon Davis.
NFC Championship, 49ers vs. Falcons: Vernon Davis, Julio Jones breakout in big game
Vernon Davis and Julio Jones were the two breakout stars in Sunday’s wild NFC Championship game.

Davis led the team with five receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown. He's been mostly a non-factor in the offense ever since Colin Kaepernick took over at quarterback, but the 49ers got him heavily involved on Sunday, no doubt noting how much the Falcons struggled at defending tight ends. San Francisco would be wise to keep the talented tight end involved in New Orleans.
On the Falcons' side, Julio Jones was the big star. Jones hauled in 11 catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns. In the end it wasn't enough for Atlanta to win, but Jones was a huge part of their fast 17-0 lead. He's still somewhat overlooked in football circles, but Sunday was a big coming out party for the second-year Alabama product.
