49ers vs. Falcons 2013, NFC Championship: San Francisco fans impressed with adjustments

The 49ers fought their way back from a 17-0 deficit on Sunday against the Falcons. Here’s a look at what stood out to San Francisco fans in that victory.

USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers found themselves trailing 17-0 early in the second quarter of Sunday's NFC Championship. Despite being stuck in such a huge hole right out of the gates, San Francisco found a way to fight back and earn a spot in the 2013 Super Bowl.

Colin Kaepernick stepped up and delivered a few huge throws in the fourth quarter. Vernon Davis caught five passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Both performances that will stand out in the coming weeks. However, the defense didn't allow a single point in the second half, a fact that surely resonated with the entire Niners fanbase.

David Fucillo of Niners Nation credited defensive coordinator Vic Fangio for his coaching down the stretch, praising his game plan in the second half. He also talked about Kaepernick's play in just his second start in the playoffs.

The 49ers showed serious grit in the face of a 17-0 deficit. We can give credit to so many different people. Colin Kaepernick showed veteran cool. The 49ers defense and coordinator Vic Fangio made essential adjustments and took care of business, pulling out a heart-pounding victory.

Of course the players on the field will be the first to show up in the highlights and in every news article, but Fangio needs to be given credit for his contributions as well. It's hard to believe the Falcons didn't score at all in the second half, even as they continued to move the ball downfield.
