Tom Brady reflects on Patriots’ missed opportunity
The Patriots’ star quarterback didn’t have his best game in the AFC Championship Game, and spoke with WEEI on Monday morning about what went wrong against the Ravens.

The loss brings Brady’s playoff record to an even 7-7 since the last time the Patriots won the Super Bowl, which is a far cry from his reputation as one of the game’s most unstoppable playoff performers. Brady spoke with WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan on Monday morning, and reflected on a lost opportunity to win another Super Bowl.
On what specifically went wrong vs. the Ravens:
“It’s not like some games where you point to one or two plays, it was all around. Third down conversions, red areas, turnovers always play a factor. Those things weren’t really in our favor. When they’re not, you can’t point to one play, there’s a lot of plays. We lost by 15, I can’t remember the last time we lost by 15 points. It’s been a while.”
On whether he would try to convince the Patriots to bring back wide receiver Wes Welker, who is set to become a free agent:
“Those business parts of the game usually take care of themselves. Certainly, I’m not involved in any of those. Everyone knows how I feel about Wes, how our whole team feels about Wes. He’s one of the best players I’ve ever played with or played against, and he just a phenomenal player. He’s been the heart and soul of what our team’s all about. He’s been so selfless, and the way that he carries himself and commits himself to helping our team win, it’s second to none. But like I said, that’s not my decision.”
On Brady’s .500 playoff record since New England’s last Super Bowl victory in 2004:
“I wish I could win the Super Bowl every year, but if it were that easy, that would tell you about the sport. It’s not easy to win. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of some great teams, and won a lot of games. I wish I won every playoff game I ever played, but I haven’t.”
