2013 NFL playoff bracket: Texans will face Patriots next Sunday

The Houston Texans will go north to face the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional round, and will have a chance to avenge a blowout loss less than a month ago.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans will travel to Foxborough next weekend to face the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional playoff round on Sunday, Jan. 13. The third-seeded Texans defeated the sixth-seeded Cincinnati Bengals, 19-13, on Saturday in Houston, and will have an extra day of preparation to get ready for the next round.

The Texans played at New England less than a month ago on Dec. 10, and got blown out, 42-14.

The Patriots were the only option for the Texans, by virtue of Houston's position as the third seed. In the NFL playoffs, the lowest remaining seed after the Wild Card round travels to play the No. 1 seed, and the second-lowest seed travels to play the No. 2 seed. Since Houston was the third seed, it was impossible for them to play the Broncos in the Divisional round, no matter who won the other Wild Card game.

The winner of the other Wild Card game between the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts will travel to Denver to face the Broncos on Saturday, Jan. 12.
