Lamar Jackson shoves Bills fan after getting hit in the head

Absolutely no excuse for this from the fan.

It goes without saying that buying a ticket to an NFL game doesn’t give you the right to shove players, but here we are. After a DeAndre Hopkins scored a big-time fourth quarter touchdown he was celebrating close to the wall, when a Bills fan reached over and smacked him hard on the helmet, before doing the same to Lamar Jackson.

Lamar wasn’t having any of it.

Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth were quick to condemn both sides, but sorry, I don’t subscribe to that mess. It would be one thing if Hopkins leapt into the stands, or tried to provoke opposing fans — but this was a fairly standard celebration. Just because Hopkins is in close proximity to fans doesn’t give them the right to reach over and smack them in the head, simply because you’re bitter they just scored on your ass.

We can clutch pearls about Lamar retaliating, but give me a break. This is a grown adult fan thinking he can get away with being a horse’s ass, as if his ticket comes with a bonus perk of treating athletes like garbage. If they’re going to fine Jackson for making contact with a fan, fine — ban this fool for life then as well. Otherwise just leave both sides alone and let this be a message to other morons that if you pick a fight with an NFL player you might get popped back for it.
