Week 5 of the 2025 NFL season is upon us and the action will kick off on Thursday night with the San Francisco 49ers visiting the Los Angeles Rams in an NFC West showdown at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
Matthew Stafford start or sit: Week 5 fantasy football advice
We break down the fantasy football outlook of Matthew Stafford ahead of the Rams’ Week 5 matchup against the 49ers.

The Rams were able to down the red hot Colts in a 27-20 victory at home on Sunday, improving their record to 3-1 on the year. Quarterback Matthew Stafford lit it up through the air in the win and he’ll look to duplicate that performance in this early-season divisional showdown.
Below, we’ll go over Stafford’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 5.
Fantasy Football analysis: Rams QB Matthew Stafford
Stafford was excellent against the Colts, completing 29 of 41 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns in the win. We once again saw how dangerous this passing attack can be when the veteran Pro Bowler is airing it out to Puka Nacua and Davante Adams and his 88-yard strike to Tuuu Atwell put the team over the top late in the fourth quarter. His performance garnered 27.4 fantasy points, which was the second-highest total among QB’s for the week.
Despite preseason concerns over his back, Stafford has himself a productive first month of the season and is currently second in the NFL in passing yards while chilling in the top 10 in passing EPA. As long as he’s slinging it like this, he’ll remain a viable fantasy football option.
Start or sit in Week 5 PPR leagues?
Start. Stafford is getting into a groove as the month of October begins and it helps that he has two All-Pro receivers to lean on. Even with the 49ers being top-10 in defensive passing EPA, I’ll still give the greenlight to start the veteran for this Thursday-night showdown.
