Best DFS picks for Steelers vs Packers in Week 8

Chet Gresham takes us through his favorite picks for FanDuel’s Week 8 DFS matchup between the Steelers and Packers

The 4-1-1 Green Bay Packers head to Pittsburgh to take on the 4-2 Steelers as 3-point road favorites. This will be the first game Aaron Rodgers will face his old team. How much that matters at 42 years of age is up for debate, but we know this will be a special game for him.

There is no doubt that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin can get his players ready, as seen by his 11-2-3 record against the spread when a home underdog of three or more points. That doesn’t make a Steelers win likely, but does make it more likely the Packers won’t run away with the win.

The Packers offense has been on point, with only one game where they haven’t put up 27 or more points. The Steelers defense has been mostly poor this season, ranking 20th against the pass and 21st against the run in EPA allowed. the packers currently rank eighth against the run and 19th against the pass in EPA allowed.

Below we will take a look at the best DFS plays for this Sunday night showdown.

Captain’s Picks

Josh Jacobs, RB, Packers (FLEX $14,600, CPT $21,900)

Jacobs has scored two touchdowns in three straight games and gets a defense that just let Chase Brown have his best rushing game of the season. Jacobs is easily the highest fantasy play of the game. The Steelers run defense just doesn’t strike fear in anybody at this point, so we can expect a heavy dose of Jacobs this week.

DK Metcalf, WR, Steelers (FLEX $11,400, CPT $17,100)

If Rodgers is going to get any revenge on his former team, Metcalf will need to have a strong game. He’s easily the team’s No. 1 receiver and has made big plays all year. The only trouble is the team just doesn’t throw the ball to him enough. That could change this week if the Packers get up to a quick lead.

Tucker Kraft, TE, Packers (FLEX $10,000, CPT $15,000)

The Steelers have allowed the third-most fantasy points to tight ends this season, with Hunter Henry, Harold Fannin, and Noah Fant putting up good numbers. Kraft is a monster after the catch and has four touchdowns through six games. His upside is tremendous and this is a game where he could go off.

Value flex plays

Calvin Austin, WR, Steelers (FLEX $4,800, CPT $7,200)

Austin is back from his shoulder injury and is super cheap. He’s a big play threat and had two touchdowns in his first three games. Rodgers will be happy to have him back, as all the other receivers who tried to slot in to that No. 2 spot did little of note.

Romeo Doubs, WR, Packers (FLEX $8,600, CPT $12,900)

Doubs isn’t a super cheap play, but he’s not that expensive for a team’s No. 1 receiver. The Steelers have been giving up big target numbers to No. 1 receivers and rank 26th overall against them in defensive DVOA. Old man Joe Flacco and Ja’Marr Chase just went crazy on them last week and we’ve also seen Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Justin Jefferson put up big numbers. Jerry Jeudy wasn’t efficient against them, but did see a season high 13 targets as well.

Jonnu Smith, TE, Steelers (FLEX $5,400, CPT $8,100)

Pat Freirmuth went off last week for the first time all year and there’s a chance the try to keep him going, but his price on FanDuel is a little rich for his usual output this season. Smith on the other hand can help you get both quarterbacks and possible Josh Jacobs on your team in cash games, which is likely a good plan. Smith continues to see 3-6 targets each game and has found the end zone twice.
