Philip Rivers, who is a grandfather now, considering comeback with Colts

LET’S GET WEIRD, NFL!

The Indianapolis Colts aren’t willing to punt on the season in the wake of Daniel Jones’ season-ending achilles tear, and they’re trying to enable the wildest comeback in NFL history. That means calling 44-year-old Philip Rivers and seeing if the future Hall of Famer is willing to come out of retirement for a potential playoff run.

News broke of the potential interest on Monday night, and truly it’s unbelievable as I write this.

It’s been five years since Rivers played in the NFL, but he ended his career in Indianapolis. Granted, that was under former head coach Frank Reich, but there’s enough familiarity with his skillset to try and see if this can work — because lord knows that anything is better than starting Riley Leonard at this point.

The 44-year-old was still elite when he retired from football. That final year with the Colts saw Rivers throw for 4,169 yards, 24 TDs and 11 INTs — which was good enough to lead the team to an 11-5 regular season, before falling in the playoffs.

The next step is for Rivers to decide whether or not he wants to play football and come back, which entirely depends on his body. It would also turn back the clock on potential enshrinement in Canton — but with that many mouths to feed, it might be worth getting paid a hefty check to try and take the Colts on a playoff run.

Please let this happen. It would be the wildest story in an already wild 2025.
