The Washington Commanders took a huge step back in 2025, going from the NFC Championship Game the year prior to finishing last in the NFC East with a 5-12 mark. A huge part of that was second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels suiting up in just seven games due to injuries and some of the durability concerns that he had coming out of college are starting to rear their ugly head in the pros. The team still showed fight at times with veteran Marcus Mariota leading the charge, but it wasn’t enough to get them out of the basement.

The Commanders will try for a bounce back year in 2026 and we at least now know who their opponents will be for the campaign.

Washington Commanders schedule analysis

The Commanders will have nine home games and eight road games next season pending the announcement of the matchups for the 2026 international games. The rotation will include matchups against the entire AFC South and NFC West, along with their usual six divisional games within the NFC East. Since they finished third in the division, they will be matched up with the third-place finishers of the AFC North (Bengals), NFC South (Falcons), and NFC North (Lions) to round out the 17-game schedule.

Washington will have a manageable schedule on paper next season with just seven matchups against 2025 playoff participants. Their home slate in particular will be a challenge with the Eagles, Rams, Seahawks, and Texans, along with possibly improved Cowboys and Bengals teams all set to visit Northwest Stadium in the fall. Overall, this slate still sets up nicely if the aforementioned Daniels can stay healthy and the team returns to their 2024 form.
