How the Seahawks got to the Super Bowl

The Seahawks are headed to the Super Bowl after beating the Rams 31-27 in the NFC Championship. Seattle took a four-point lead late in the second quarter and extended it to 11 points early in the third quarter. The Rams twice cut their lead back to four points, but they could never get over the hump.

Seahawks Super Bowl odds history

The Seahawks return to the Super Bowl for the first time since losing Super Bowl 49 to the Patriots in 2015. Seattle was a one-point favorite in the game, but lost it 28-24. That was the second straight Super Bowl appearance, having crushed the Broncos 43-8 as a 2.5-point underdog in Super Bowl 48. Their only other Super Bowl appearance came in 2006. They lost 21-10 as a four-point underdog against the Steelers in Super Bowl 40.

In their three Super Bowl appearances, the Seahawks are 1-2 straight up and against the spread. They were favorites in 2015, and underdogs in 2014 and 2006. As a Super Bowl favorite, they are 0-1 straight up and against the spread.

Patriots Super Bowl odds

How the Patriots got to the Super Bowl

The Patriots are headed to Santa Clara after beating the Broncos 10-7 in the AFC Championship. The snow was the difference in this game. Denver sent out backup QB Jarrett Stidham and he drove the Broncos down the field for a touchdown in the first quarter. The Patriots tied the game in the second quarter, but it was looking like we might see a tight one. While the game finished close, it was more because of the weather. As the conditions deteriorated, the Broncos offense got worse. The Patriots weren’t much better, but they did just enough to advance to their 12th Super Bowl.

Patriots Super Bowl odds history

The Patriots were last in the Super Bowl in 2019 following the 2018 season. It marked the third straight season they reached the final game, of which they won two of them. They were favorites in all three games and covered the spread in the two wins. In 2017, they were a three-point favorite against the Falcons and they won the game 34-28 in overtime. In 2018, they were a 4.5-point favorite against the Eagles and lost 41-33. In 2019, they were a two-point favorite against the Rams and won the game 13-3.

Over the course of their Super Bowl history, the Patriots are 6-5 straight up and 4-6-1 against the spread. They’ve been favored in seven games and underdogs in four. As a Super Bowl underdog, New England is 2-2 straight up and 2-1-1 against the spread. Their Super Bowl push was against the Packers in 1997, when they lost 35-21 as a 14-point underdog.
