It is officially NFL draft time. This is one of the most awesome and incredible weeks of the year.

For those outside of our world it is hard to understand. An entire weekend (much longer than that obviously) is devoted to teams picking players. The draft is, in a literal sense, a reading of names as they are submitted to the NFL by its given teams.

How is it possible then that this event continues to balloon? Pittsburgh is overrun with NFL fans right now seeking to be a part of it all. What is it about this whole thing that has everyone so consumed?

The legendary Scott Hanson took some time to join SB Nation on draft eve to talk about it all and noted that the way media works in today’s day and age obviously plays a big role in it all. Scott wisely noted that when baseball was dominating in American culture that there was no mass effect to be had from it all.

The NFL is the greatest reality show on earth and that is a big reason for its popularity. People and fans are able to absorb every second of it, and Scott does a fantastic job in-season of making sure that happens as the host of NFL RedZone.

Scott also has a longstanding partnership with Lowe’s, and Lowe’s themselves have a longstanding partnership with the NFL. They designed and built the Draft Green Room for the 2026 NFL Draft. Scott actually spoke to me while sitting in it, and they have a presence on the ground in Pittsburgh this week.

One of the items on display there, one that Scott had around him representing different teams, is the Kobalt Mini Toolbox. Yours truly has the Dallas Cowboys version.

With Draft marking the start of the 2026 NFL season, now’s the time to get your hands on one of these as a good reminder of what you’re working toward every week as you make your way through your to-do list and Earn Your Sunday. Fans can pick up items in the Draft Green Room built by Lowe’s as well as the NFL Kobalt Mini Toolboxes on Lowes.com.

My mini toolbox adorns my bookshelf area where I work covering the NFL. Like Scott the NFL is my life, and there are millions of people like us who love it in the same way.

Here’s to the next wave of stars that will be found for us all throughout the course of the 2026 NFL Draft.
