Jets WR Santonio Holmes repeated on Wednesday his denial of an allegation in a Sports Illustrated article by former NFL agent Josh Luchs that, while in college, the onetime Ohio State standout told Luchs and another man that he was already taking money from agent.
Santonio Holmes Reiterates Denial Of Allegations In Sports Illustrated Story
The relevant section of the SI article by Luchs:
In November 2005, Steve and I flew to Ohio State to talk to receiver Santonio Holmes. We met him outside the football building, and he said, “Listen, I want to save you the time. We don’t need to meet. I’ve been taking money from [an agent] the last couple years, and he’s been taking care of my family too.”
The other man, Steve Feldman, backed up Luchs’ story to SI, but Holmes denied the story to SI through a Jets spokesperson — something he did in person Wednesday when reporters asked him about it.
I don’t even know who this person is that made the comment that I supposedly talked to — I never had any contact with this person. … I don’t know him. Never met him, don’t care to know him, wish he never did it.
Gang Green Nation, our New York Jets blog, isn’t overly worried about what might happen to Holmes.
The potential investigation really won’t affect the Jets much. I’m not aware of any rule punishing players in the NFL for taking money while in college.
Stay tuned to Gang Green Nation for more on Holmes, and this stream for more on the SI story.
