It certainly wasn’t pretty, but the San Francisco 49ers finally got their first win of the 2010 season by defeating the Oakland Raiders 17-9 on Sunday.
Week 6 NFL Scores And Results: 49ers Get First Win, Beat Raiders 17-9
Alex Smith struggled early, but came on in the second half, throwing a third-quarter touchdown to Michael Crabtree and a fourth-quarter score to Vernon Davis to erase an early 6-0 Raiders lead. Smith’s job was made infinitely easier by a very strong performance from running back Frank Gore, who rushed for 149 yards on 25 carries.
Starting backups at quarterback (Jason Campbell) and running back (Michael Bush) that performed admirably just last week against San Diego, Oakland’s offense fell flat on its face in this one. Campbell completed just 8 of 21 passes and threw two interceptions, and Bush was held to 47 rushing yards on 20 carries. The Raiders settled for three Sebastian Janikowski field goals, and missed an opportunity or two to make game-changing plays.
With San Francisco’s victory elevating their record to 1-5, the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers are now the NFL’s only winless teams.
