Quote That: Mike Zimmer Hasn’t Forgotten About Bobby Petrino

Remember when Bobby Petrino left the Falcons? He left a letter in each player’s locker and Lawyer Milloy decided to sum up everyone’s feelings like so:

A pretty perfect reaction if you ask me.

And hearing Mike Zimmer talk about Petrino this week, I couldn’t help but think of that story. From the Cincinnati Enquirer, Zimmer remembers his time with Petrino:

“He is a coward. Put that in quotes. He’s a gutless bastard. Quote that. I don’t give a s—.”

So, clearly, Lawyer Milloy wasn’t the only Falcon that felt betrayed enough to question Petrino’s manhood. And Zimmer, Petrino’s defensive coordinator in Atlanta, hasn’t forgotten.

“He came in and said he resigned, he would talk to us all at a later date, walked out of the office and no one has ever talked to him since. Not that anybody wanted to. ... He ruined a bunch of people’s lives, a bunch of people’s families, kids, because he didn’t have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That’s the truth.”

It’s a classic case of he-said-and-he-also-said-he-left-without-saying-a-damn-word.

So... Who do you believe? Bobby Petrino?

Or Lawyer Milloy and Mike Zimmer?

One thing’s for certain: if Petrino decides to betray Arkansas anytime soon, it won’t be to bolt to a coaching job in the NFL. That bridge, it seems, has been burned.
