The result was not surprising: the Baltimore Ravens beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Baltimore is now 5-2, while the Bills fall to 0-6 and are now the NFL’s only winless team.
Week 7 NFL Scores And Results: Ravens Outlast Spunky Bills, Win 37-34 In OT
The way that result came to fruition? Quite surprising, really. The Bills, entering Week 7 with the NFL’s No. 30-rated offense, piled up 505 total yards of offense, moving the ball at will against Ray Lewis and Baltimore’s defense. Ryan Fitzpatrick became the first Bills quarterback to surpass 300 passing yards since 2006, throwing for 373 yards and four touchdowns in Buffalo’s 37-34 overtime loss. Lee Evans caught three of those touchdown passes (on six catches for 105 yards), and Steve Johnson added eight catches for 158 yards and a touchdown.
Baltimore, however, made plays when they needed them. Trailing 24-13 in the second quarter, the Ravens capitalized on a fumbled kick return by C.J. Spiller to cut the lead to four. Ed Reed intercepted two Fitzpatrick passes, the first setting up a Willis McGahee touchdown to give the Ravens a 27-24 lead. After giving up ten fourth-quarter points to let the game get to overtime, the Ravens forced and recovered a Shawn Nelson fumble to set up Billy Cundiff’s game-winning field goal. (Nelson, for the record, could have been called down via forward progress on that play.)
Joe Flacco wasn’t particularly efficient, completing just 51.6% of his passes, but did throw for 250 yards and three touchdowns - two to Todd Heap, and the third to Anquan Boldin. Ray Rice and McGahee added a combined 136 yards on the ground for the Ravens.
