NFL Week 8 Scores And Results: Patriots Seal Up 28-18 Win Prior To Brett Favre Injury
Trailing 21-10 in the fourth quarter, Favre took a Myron Pryor helmet to the chin in New England’s red zone, causing a laceration to his chin that prevented his return. Tarvaris Jackson promptly threw a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion on his first snaps of the season, cutting New England’s lead to 21-18.
New England would later seal their win with a dominating drive capped off by a two-yard touchdown rush from BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Green-Ellis rushed for 112 yards on 17 carries, with his touchdown complementing a three-yard scamper from scatback Danny Woodhead. Tom Brady completed 16 of 27 passes for 240 yards, and found Brandon Tate - yes, the Brandon Tate that replaced Randy Moss - on a 65-yard touchdown pass that gave the Patriots a 14-10 lead in the third quarter.
Prior to his injury, Favre played well, completing 22 of 32 passes for 259 yards, with one interception that fell out of Percy Harvin’s hands and into Devin McCourty’s lap. Adrian Peterson ran for 92 yards and a touchdown, but New England’s timely big plays kept New England comfortably ahead throughout most of the second half.
Randy Moss in his return to New England? One reception for eight yards.
New England is now 6-1 and in sole possession of first place in the AFC East, while the Vikings fall to 2-5 and are quickly becoming also-rans in the NFC.
