There’s nothing more demeaning than a bunch of politicians trying to use sports analogies to reach out to us “common folk” that skip straight to the sports page every morning. What’s that? You say we’d just ignore it otherwise?
Politics... Sports... Joe Buck... Randy Moss... Senator Guy... America!
↵Well, yeah.
↵But still. It’s so demeaning!
↵Enter the new ad from Russ Feingold as the latest evidence that politicians think we’re dumb:
↵
↵The clip uses footage of Randy Moss in the endzone, mooning the crowd at Lambeau Field, a pretty transparent ploy to enrage Feingold’s Wisconsin constituents. The Moss footage drew the ire of the NFL, unsurprisingly. Regardless, Feingold explains the metaphor:
↵↵“It’s exactly the type of behavior that [forgot who he said] are engaging in! They’re dancing in the endzone because [forgot that, too].”
↵↵I’m not sure what’s worse: that politicians think Americans can only understand politics in sports terms, that they’re definitely right, or that, watching that commercial, my only genuine response was, “God I hate Joe Buck.”
