Vikings QB Brett Favre assured people in an NFL Network interview this week that this would be his last year playing football.
Will Brett Favre Retire? Vikings QB (Again) Says This Is Last Year
Heard this before?
Yeah, we all have. But there are indications Favre may be telling the truth this time around.
First, his physical problems seem to be mounting. Though drama is always following Favre, it did appear that there was a legitimate question of whether he would be able to play at times this year because of an ankle injury.
Second, there’s the whole Jenn Sterger issue. If the NFL finds that Favre did something wrong, he could be suspended or fined by the league. We’re not sure when the investigation is supposed to end but if it’s not complete before the end of the 2010 season, Favre probably doesn’t want to come back to find out the results.
Third, if the Vikings don’t make some miracle comeback and make a run at the Super Bowl then Brad Childress is gone and it’s unlikely Favre is going to want to come back and deal with another new head coach. It’s possible but it would seem unlikely.
Favre’s legacy isn’t the same anymore as his play has dropped off considerably from that amazing run last year and then the whole Sterger thing that’s leaving quite a stain. So even though we’ve heard this several times before I’m willing to believe Favre this time around.
