Chad Henne Injury: Second Dolphins QB Knocked Out Of Game Against Titans

Two quarters after newly crowned Miami Dolphins starter Chad Pennington left the field with a right shoulder injury, Chad Henne again relinquished the football, this time due to a knee injury. He headed into the locker room to have his left knee looked at alongside Pennington.

The Dolphins then bought time until the fourth quarter by just running the Wildcat to avoid using third-string QB Tyler Thigpen. According to one of the NFL’s most confusing rules, if a team plays its third-stringer before the fourth quarter, it can’t return its second-stringer for the rest of the game. Luckily, Miami’s is the NFL’s offense best prepared to operate without a quarterback, as they do this kind of thing on purpose all the time anyway.

Thigpen eventually took over in the fourth, leading the Dolphins to nine more points to put the game away. Many NFL teams only enter Sundays with two active quarterbacks, but when one of your quarterbacks is Chad Pennington, it’s wise to retain a third.
