Report: Chad Henne, Chad Pennington Out For Season, Tyler Thigpen To Start

Losing Chad Pennington and Chad Henne for today’s game against the Titans was bad. Losing them for the season? It’s crisis time in Miami.

A source has told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Pennington and Henne “more than likely” suffered season-ending injuries against the Titans, casting a pall over the Dolphins’ first home win of the season.

That means Tyler Thigpen, who played well in relief of Pennington and Henne today, will be pressed into service as the Dolphins’ starter, likely as early as their Thursday night game against the Bears.

Pennington’s injury was to his throwing arm, which collided with tackle Jake Long’s helmet during his follow-through on a first quarter pass. Henne suffered a left leg injury on a tackle in the third quarter, and stayed down on the field for several minutes before leaving the field under his own power.

Thigpen has been a starter before. He started 11 games for Kansas City in 2008, throwing for over 2,600 yards and 18 touchdowns while leading the Chiefs to a 1-10 record in his starts. The Chiefs went 2-14 on the season.

Miami, a team with Super Bowl aspirations at this season’s outset, will have to hope Thigpen is better in his second stint as a starting quarterback.
