Down by 14-3 with six minutes to go, the Detroit Lions had a chance to tie the Buffalo Bills in the final minute. A Dave Rayner field goal cut the deficit, and WR Calvin Johnson caught a 20-yard score from QB Shaun Hill with 20 seconds left to set up a two-point try for the tie. Hill overthrew TE Brandon Pettigrew in the end zone, and the Lions lost an NFL record 25th straight road game.

Johnson’s 128 yards were topped by Bills RB Fred Jackson’s 170 and two touchdowns, one of the best games of his career.
In sunnier news, the Bills won their first game, giving us no winless teams. These two teams now have ten one-score losses among their 15 defeats. Next week the 2-7 Lions take on the all-new Dallas Cowboys, and the Bills draw the also 2-7 Cincinnati Bengals.
