What kind of stadium does $1.6 billion buy? Apparently, one without enough backup generators in case of emergency.
Chaos In The New Meadowlands: The Power Went Out And The Cowboys Are Leading
New Meadowlands Stadium briefly lost power during the third quarter of today's Giants-Cowboys game. Many reports cite the cause of the outage as a blown transformer, Pam Oliver reported on the Fox broadcast, "The explanation is that there is no explanation," and an explanation from Meadowlands Stadium personnel blames an "interruption of power to the main feeder."
The game was delayed for almost 15 minutes as the power was restored. (Despite worries, no one seems to have been hurt in the darkness.)
Amusingly, Fox’s broadcast has lost all of its graphics, and has been reduced to shots of the in-stadium scoreboard to keep viewers updated on the score. Confusingly, the Cowboys are winning a game against the Giants.
Jon Kitna has spread the ball to the Cowboys' offensive playmakers so far, getting touchdowns from Dez Bryant, Felix Jones, and Miles Austin. Defensive back Brian McCann returned an Eli Manning pass for a 101-yard touchdown return, the longest play in Cowboys history.
Thus, the Cowboys lead the NFC East leaders, 33-13, in the third quarter. And be honest: if you had been told before this game that that tally would happen in this game and in the Cowboys’ favor and a temporary localized blackout would happen at a huge new cathedral of football, you would have asked how on Earth the Cowboys were permitted to score touchdowns in the dark, wouldn’t you?
