Brad Childress Releases Statement After Being Fired By Vikings As Head Coach

The Minnesota Vikings fired Brad Childress on Monday following the 31-3 blowout against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Childress released a statement shortly after news of his demise in Minnesota was made public.

“The past five years have been a tremendous experience for my family and I as the Head Coach of the Minnesota Vikings. I have a great respect for the players and coaches who I have worked with and for their dedication to each other and to the organization. I am proud of our accomplishments and believe the foundation of this football team is stronger today than when I became Head Coach in 2006. I appreciate the opportunity that Zygi, Mark, and the whole Wilf family afforded me and wish them success as they move forward.”

It's a pretty standard statement and one he didn't want to have to make. But after setting expectations so high last year, the Vikings had no other choice to relieve him of his duties following the 3-7 start. The failed Randy Moss experiment and all Brett Favre's issues likely didn't help Childress' cause but he was the one making those calls in the first place.

The Vikings now turn to interim head coach Leslie Frazier to turn this season into something other than a complete disaster.
