It only took two quarters, but the New York Jets finally snapped to life. The Jets show out of halftime, taking only 47 seconds to score while employing a bit of trickeration early in the second half. With the ball at their own 47, Mark Sanchez took the snap, faked a hand-off and gave it to Brad Smith on a reverse. Some nice down-field blocking gave Smith all the room he needed as he easily broke into the second level, taking it 53 yards for the score. It wasn’t the wildest trick play, but it was completely effective. There’s nothing like a two play drive to open the half.
Bengals Vs. Jets: Rex Ryan Gets Tricky, Brad Smith Gives Jets Lead, 10-3
Before the touchdown drive, the Jets were having trouble gaining traction. Sanchez and the Jets’ offense was moving the ball well, but stalling in Bengals’ territory, having to settling for field goal attempts instead of touchdowns. A reverse to Smith was just what the doctor ordered, giving the Jets the big play they’ve been missing all night.
The touchdown answered a Bengals’ scoring drive just before the half, giving Cincinnati a 7-3 halftime lead in what was a listless first half. There’s finally signs of life on Thanksgiving Day at The Meadowlands with the Jets leading the Bengals by three, 10-7.
