It’s been a comedy of errors for the Cincinnati Bengals in the third quarter. The Bengals had an easy chance to even the score in the third after a controversial roughing the passer call extended the drive. When it stalled again, this time at the Jets’ nine yard line, kicker Aaron Pettery had a chip-shot, 27-yard attempt to level the score at 10. He missed it.
Bengals Vs. Jets: Muffed Punt Leads To Another Jets’ Score
The Bengal defense held the Jets on the next possession, forcing the New York to punt after a three and out. Steve Weatherford unleashed a booming, 74-yard punt that backed up return man Andre Caldwell all the way to his own one. Caldwell muffed the kick, giving the Jets excellent field position. Two plays later, Mark Sanchez hit Santonio Holmes for 13 yards and the score.
The costly errors by the Bengals are mounting up, giving the Jets plenty of chances to run away with the game. At the end of the third, New York leads Cincinnati, 17-3.
