It’s not often that a football game gets overshadowed by a fight. It’s not often that Chris Johnson gets bottled up. And it’s not often that the Texans can stop a quarterback from doing whatever he wants.
NFL Week 12 Scores And Results: Texans Shut Out Titans, Andre Johnson Fights
All three of those things happened today in Houston, where the Texans blanked the Titans, 20-0.
First and foremost, Andre Johnson’s fight with Cortland Finnegan is likely to be one for the ages. But it might have been partly a result of one of the best days from the Houston defense all year.
The Texans held Chris Johnson, the NFL’s leading rusher in 2009, to just five yards on seven carries, by far his worst day in the NFL. And the much-maligned Texans pass defense was able to stymie Rusty Smith and the Tennessee passing attack as a result.
That made the Texans offense’s job easy: get the ball to Arian Foster (which it did 30 times for 143 yards on the ground and nine times through the air for 75 yards), and don’t commit turnovers. Those two things happened, and the Texans kept their faint playoff hopes alive, while giving Tennessee just another loss in what is looking like a lost season.
