Bills Claim LB Shawne Merriman Off Waivers

The Buffalo Bills have claimed linebacker Shawne Merriman off of waivers. Merriman was previously with the San Diego Chargers. Bills General Manager Buddy Nix is optimistic about the pickup:

“As we have said many times before, we are constantly evaluating our roster and will do things that we feel can improve our team,” said Bills GM Buddy Nix. “We think Shawne can help our defense and so we have claimed him off waivers. He has been an impact player in a 3-4 defense and we feel this is a good opportunity to make our team better.”

The Bills can not really get much worse as they are sitting at 0-7 on the season. Merriman was placed on the Chargers injured reserve with a calf muscle injury and listed as a “minor-injury designation,” and once Merriman was able to pass the physical the Chargers waived him. Now that Merriman has passed the physical he should be able to suit up right away for Buffalo.
