The Dallas Cowboys sit at an incredibly disappointing (or funny, depending on who you are) 1-6 on the season. Their quarterback may be out for the year. They just lost to the Jaguars -- the Jaguars! -- by three scores. The playoff dream is nearing mathematical elimination..
Roy Williams On Cowboys Running The Table: ‘It Would Be A Storybook Ending’
But don’t tell that to Cowboys WR Roy Williams, who thinks the ‘Boys may be able to run the table on the rest of the 2010 season schedule.
“You know me. I think we can go nine in a row, if you ask me,” Williams said. “People can call me stupid or whatever but this football team has the corps of players and the supporting cast of players to win nine in row. We just got to get it started.”
Now just how realistic is this? Looking at the Cowboys first-place schedule, I tend to lean towards the "stupid" side of Williams' words because the Cowboys may not even get through the next two games unscathed. They go on the road to face arguably the NFC's two best teams -- Packers and Giants. Then they host the upstart Lions before playing the 2009 Super Bowl reps in the Saints and Colts in consecutive weeks. If that's not hard enough already, then they end it playing the Eagles twice in the last month of the season.
So nine consecutive wins? Not likely.
“It would be a great storybook ending,” Williams said. “It would be awesome. I don’t know if they’d put us in the Hall of Fame for that if this [team] was going to go on and win the Super Bowl, but it’s a tough feat to cross. But if there is any team in the league that can do it, it’s the Dallas Cowboys.”
That quotes sums up a lot of the Cowboys season. Talking about the Hall of Fame before you’ve done anything. Just like the folks (like yours truly) who placed the Cowboys in the Super Bowl this year before they played a game, it sounds pretty stupid.
