The Baltimore Ravens forced a quick three-and-out on the Miami Dolphins’ opening possession of the second half, and a quick Joe Flacco-to-Derrick Mason touchdown extended Baltimore’s lead to 10 early in the third quarter.
Week 9 NFL, Ravens Vs. Dolphins: Derrick Mason TD Puts Ravens Up 10
For Flacco, it’s his second touchdown strike of the day, giving him two touchdown passes in three consecutive games. Mason now has four receptions for 42 yards and the score on the day.
Baltimore has been getting most of its offensive production, however, from their running back tandem of Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. Miami’s defense has continually allowed Flacco to check down to those two running backs, who have utilized the opportunities to gain 113 receiving yards between them on six receptions. That total includes the 32-yard scoring play by McGahee on the game’s opening possession.
In all, Rice and McGahee have combined for 177 yards on 22 total touches in this game. At some point, the Dolphins will need to pay more attention to these two players, and when that happens, Mason and an opportunistic receiving corps should be able to take advantage.
