The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are about the only thing collapsing quicker than the Metrodome. Losers of two straight, the Bucs came to Washington today hoping to fix things against the Redskins. Ryan Torain had other ideas.
Ryan Torain Having Record-Setting Day For Redskins Through One Quarter
The Redskins running back is having a fantastic day, and has already set NFL and Redskins records after rushing 10 times for 121 yards in the first quarter. That's the most rushing yards in a first quarter in Redskins history dating back to 1991, and the most rushing yards in a first quarter in the NFL since Marshall Faulk went off in a game for the Rams in 2001.
That’s bad news for the Bucs.
Tampa Bay had the NFL's 26th-ranked rush defense entering today, and lost run-stuffer Gerald McCoy to an injury early. Torain's hard running seems likely to make that ranking worse.
But it might not great news for the Redskins’ semi-preposterous playoff hopes: the Redskins didn’t score in the first quarter, and needed play action on fourth and goal to score in the second. Could the ‘Skins still blow this game? Follow along at SB Nation DC and you might find out.
