Patriots, Tom Brady Leaving NFL Strewn In Their Wake

In their last seven quarters entering halftime of today's Bears-Patriots game, the Patriots had 99 points to their opponents' combined three. I think it's safe to say New England is clicking.

This is a version of the Patriots offense that might even trump the edition that set NFL records for points in 2007. That crew scored 36.8 points per game; the 2010 Patriots, since a loss to Cleveland on the first weekend in November, have averaged 39.2 points per game. In that stretch, Tom Brady has thrown 15 touchdowns and no interceptions, and only dipped under a 70 percent completion once — against Pittsburgh, he hit on just 69.8% of his passes. (He'll likely be well under that mark today against Chicago, but should still clear 60 percent.)

Perhaps most terrifyingly, the Patriots have done all this against some of the NFL’s best.

Their victims in that stretch — if we consider the Patriots' current 36-7 lead against the Bears unassailable — include division leaders Pittsburgh and Chicago, a playoff team in the Jets, and the longtime rival Colts. Not only is New England white hot, the Pats are laying waste to some of the NFL's blue-chip teams.

The Bill Belichick Death Star may have had to reconstitute itself after the losses of multiple coaches and plenty of key players, but, at this point, it seems clear that it is fully operational once more. And it doesn’t look like there’s an Endor in sight.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn Danny Woodhead is an overgrown Ewok, though.
