It’s no secret that the Carolina Panthers have been struggling this season. Or, if you’ve actually watched a Panthers game, it’s no secret. If not, you may have forgotten they were part of the NFL. In any case, the Panthers have been pretty dreadful, and Jimmy Clausen hasn’t exactly been the savior that some had hoped for.
Steve Smith On Jimmy Clausen: ‘He Ain’t At Notre Dame Anymore’
The Panthers are winless in the games Clausen has started, and it got so bad that yesterday, the rookie actually apologized to teammate Jon Beason after the Panthers lost to the Falcons. And just like that, somehow, Steve Smith became even less impressed with Clausen. Here’s what he said:
“I’m the last guy to tell anybody to be apologizing, but if you’re going to apologize, you know, you should apologize to the people in the huddle with you. But he has a lot to learn. He ain’t at Notre Dame anymore, that’s for sure.”
He refused to speak further with reporters, leaving us to interpret that message on its own. So what exactly did Steve Smith mean?
What he meant: “He seriously apologized to the defense? I mean I think apologies are suspect to begin with, but if you’re going to act like this is middle school, what about all the offensive teammates that have had to put up with him for the past two months? Tell you what, he has a lot to learn. Because right now, he’s pretty much terrible and I have no confidence in him whatsoever. Somebody said he was great at Notre Dame. Well guess what? This ain’t Notre Dame. See what I mean?”
It’s reads like this post-apology conversation with Jake Delhomme, but... Steve Smith just seems a lot more bitter now. In other words... LOOKS LIKE THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT IN CHARLOTTE.
