Sal Alosi Suspended By Jets For Tripping Dolphins Player

FOX's Jay Glazer is reporting, via Twitter, that the New York Jets have suspended strength and conditioning coordinator Sal Alosi without pay for the remainder of the 2010 season. That'll include any playoff time that the slumping Jets log.

↵

Alosi, an unknown prior to Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, apologized Monday after tripping up Dolphins special teams gunner Nolan Carroll as Carroll attempted to cover one of Brandon Fields' incredible punts. That wording doesn't really do it justice, but the photo and video evidence most certainly does.

↵Reporters asked Alosi on Monday what prompted the decision to stick out a knee in an obvious attempt to hinder Carroll’s progress. Alosi’s response was astonishing.

↵“Had I been thinking, I would have taken a step back instead of going forward,” Alosi said.

↵That’s not technically true. When you move a body part to try to trip a player, you’re not doing so involuntarily - even if you’re a super-impressive-fast-twitch strength coordinator. There is thought behind that move. Even with post-idiocy remorse, there was a thought process there - which is, of course, why the Jets had no choice but to suspend Alosi and withhold his paychecks.
