Arthur Moats Ends Brett Favre’s Streak, Earns Nickname ‘Legend Killer’

Arthur Moats is a rookie for the Buffalo Bills, drafted out of James Madison (the same JMU that upset Virginia Tech earlier this season). While with the Dukes in 2009, he won the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the most outstanding defensive player in the FCS. The converted linebacker made his first NFL start on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, and shined with a sack and forced fumble -- an effort that has earned him a nomination for Rookie of the Week.

But it’s safe to say that he’ll forever be known as the player who ended Brett Favre’s streak.

Our Bills blog, Buffalo Rumblings, summed it up thusly:

Brett Favre started 297 consecutive games at quarterback from 1992 through 2010. Then he played against Arthur Moats, an unassuming rookie sixth-round pick out of James Madison, and one big hit ended arguably the best consecutive games played streak in the history of sports.

Tuesday morning, Moats went on Sportscenter to talk about ending Favre’s streak, which began in 1992, when Moats was four years old.

“I’ve heard ‘Legend Killer’ ... they started talking about giving me Wrangler jeans.”

And that’s why you Don’t Cross The Moats.
