Rookie tight end Jimmy Graham made an incredible catch from Drew Brees to give the New Orleans Saints an early 7-0 lead in Baltimore, but three straight Ravens touchdowns have given the home team a 21-7 lead in the second quarter.
NFL Week 15, Ravens Vs. Saints: Ed Dickson, Ray Rice TDs Give Ravens 21-7 Lead
Ed Dickson, one of Baltimore’s two solid rookie tight ends, hauled in a 34-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco for the first score, and Ray Rice added a ten-yard TD scamper and a 17-yard screen pass touchdown from Flacco to blow the game open in Baltimore’s favor.
Rice has been very effective for the Ravens early, with 65 rushing yards and another 40 receiving yards added to his two touchdowns. Baltimore is pounding the ball down New Orleans’ throats offensively, as they’ve already run the ball 19 times, while Flacco has attempted just five passes.
Meanwhile, Baltimore’s defense has given up big plays (the Graham TD, as well as a personal foul call on a helmet blow from Ed Reed), but Brees has completed just five of his first 12 passes. With their running back corps banged up, the Saints are once again leaning heavily on Brees and the passing game. They have their work cut out for them if they’re going to maintain pace with the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South.
