DeSean Jackson, Michael Vick Stage Eagles’ Unfathomable Fourth Quarter Comeback

DeSean Jackson and Michael Vick have done a lot of great things this year. But with 8:23 left in the fourth quarter at New Meadowlands Stadium, the Giants led the Eagles 31-10, and for Vick and Jackson, coming back to win must have seemed impossible.

Then they pulled off maybe the greatest comeback in an NFL game this millennium.

Vick led it off, lasering a pass to Brent Celek, who ran through the Giants secondary to cut the lead to 31-17. The Eagles executed a great onside kick, Riley Cooper recovered, and Vick took the ball up the middle for 35 yards on the second snap of that drive, setting up a touchdown to bring the score to 31-24.

Then things went from preposterous to unbelievable.

The Eagles kicked deep on the next drive, and allowed the Giants to cross midfield, converting on a third and one. But the Eagles defense stiffened, and forced a punt ... which was fair caught at the Philadelphia 12.

That was no problem for Vick, though. He scrambled for gains of 33 and 22 of that drive, and completed three of five passes for 33 yards and a touchdown, which tied the game at 31-31 with 1:16 remaining.

Finally, the Giants got a chance to do their own damage in the fourth quarter, but with the ball and three timeouts, New York floundered. Eli Manning misfired on two passes, then took a third down sack that initially looked like an accidentally brilliant move that would run the clock down and send the game to overtime.

Then Jackson took a muffed punt 65 yards for the game-winning touchdown, and the comeback was complete. In 8:17, the Eagles scored four touchdowns, came back from a 21-point deficit, took a commanding NFC East lead, sent a seismic shock to the NFC playoff picture, and authored the single most memorable moment of the 2010 NFL season.

Actually, you know what? Scratch unbelievable. Unbelievable is underselling what happened for the Eagles today.
