Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre has only thrown one incompletion in five attempts, and it came on a tipped ball. But the tip landed in Chicago Bears DE Julius Peppers’ hands deep in Vikings territory, giving Chicago an easy three after the Bears offense couldn’t get moving.

They didn’t have the same problem on their next drive, a one-play event in which QB Jay Cutler threw to WR Johnny Knox for a 67-yard touchdown. This is the kind of thing everyone is surprised to see in a game played in cold weather, but bad conditions can hurt defenses even more than offenses.
In fact, both offenses have gained right around 100 yards at the beginning of the first quarter, a productive enough rate. The Vikings have 51 on the ground and through the air, with RB Toby Gerhart on pace for a big game in his first career start. Most of Chicago’s offense came on that one Knox breakaway, but Cutler has found WR Earl Bennett for a pair of catches as well.
