Ben Roethlisberger Nose Injury Forces QB From Field After TD, Steelers Ahead 10-0

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had his previously broken nose reinjured by Carolina Panthers DE Charles Johnson. Johnson sacked Roethlisberger on a third-and-long, bloodying Roethlisberger’s face. Steelers medical staff attended to the quarterback for during the Panthers next drive.

Roethlisberger returned to the field after a Bryant McFadden interception, throwing a 43-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace three plays later. He then left the field for the locker room to be further evaluated, but was back on the field in time for Pittsburgh’s next drive.

He broke his nose two weeks ago against the Baltimore Ravens, undergoing surgery the next day. Doctors had been planning to rebreak his nose for setting during the offseason, but the Panthers may have already taken care of that. Roethlisberger has completed eight of 10 passes for 131 yards, but a fumbled snap exchange between him and Maurkice Pouncey has given Carolina the ball in decent field position, from which they will likely punt.
