The New York Jets’ opening drive of the second half stalled near midfield, leading to a fake punt attempt starring QB Mark Sanchez. The Chicago Bears anticipated the fake, since HELLO BEARS THE QUARTERBACK IS ON THE FIELD, but Sanchez’ pass fell incomplete after bouncing off TE Brad Smith’s hands. It would’ve been a first down, too.
Jets Vs. Bears: Jay Cutler To Johnny Knox Ties it Up After New York Fake Punt
On the next play, Bears QB Jay Cutler showed off his arm, blasting a 40-yard lob into WR Johnny Knox’s arms, into the wind and all, and tying the game at 24 each.
The Bears defense appears to have arrived after a rough first half, forcing fourth downs on each of New York’s first two second half drives. Bears PR Devin Hester took New York’s punt back 38 yards and into excellent scoring territory, meaning that fake punt by Sanchez may have actually been the Jets’ most effective fourth down play of the quarter.
