One of the issues facing the Saints on Monday Night Football is stopping Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and the Atlanta Falcons offense. They've been slow and steady all year methodically moving up and down the field to produce one of the better offenses in the NFL this year.
Monday Night Football, Saints Vs. Falcons: How To Stop Matt Ryan, Michael Turner
As SB Nation’s The Falcoholic points out, wearing down the opponent has become their calling card.
The Falcons are great at wearing out opponents. It’s really become their offensive identity at this point. A healthy dose of Turner to wear out the front seven and short passes that rely on the physicality of their receivers to get extra yardage. It seems to be working.
So how do you stop them? So far, two teams have -- Steelers and Eagles. The Steelers loss came in Week 1 and the Eagles loss in Week 6. Here's what The Falcoholic says about how Atlanta's been stopped:
The Eagles sent constant, overwhelming pressure which disrupted the offensive flow. No rhythm, no methodical marching. The Steelers stopped them, but that was so early in the season I feel like the Falcons didn’t have their identity yet.
Basically the best chance comes at winning the turnover battle and controlling the time of possession. The Falcons ned to make mistakes and the Saints need to capitalize when they do.
It’s one of the best games of the year because both teams are so sound offensively and defensively Check out The Falcholic and Canal Street Chronicles to stay up on the game.
