Saints Vs. Falcons: Matt Ryan, Michael Turner Held In Check As New Orleans Wins, 17-14

The New Orleans Saints offense will get all the headlines after Drew Brees took the Saints 90 yards late in the fourth quarter for the game winning score against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. But if you watched the game then you know New Orleans defense really had a heck of a night.

They're a top 10 unit and they showed why Monday night holding Matt Ryan to just 148 yards passing and Michael Turner to just 48 yards rushing. SB Nation's Canal Street Chronicles is understandably excited about that defense:

Speaking of which, how ‘bout that DEFENSE? In a game in which the offense sputtered for much of the night, the defense continued to answer the call and kept the game close, shutting down Atlanta playmakers right and left, hardly giving up any ground.

They were really pretty money all night and it makes you remember how dangerous this team is. It’s not your typical team that’s going to give up 40 points but score 45. Gregg Williams’ defense was confusing and productive throughout the night as they handed Ryan his second home loss since he came into the league.

Drew Brees drove down the field late in the game to take the 17-14 lead, which would end up becoming the final. But on Monday morning you know that Saints offense will be thanking the defense for the role they played.

Check out Canal Street Chronicles and The Falcoholic for more on the game.
