Vikings Vs. Eagles: Joe Webb Leads Minnesota To Stunning Upset, 24-14

With two extra days to prepare, thanks to a snow storm in Philly that gave us the gift of football on a Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings put together a game-plan to keep the explosive Philadelphia Eagles offense in check. The Vikings forced three Michael Vick turnovers, including two fumbles, en route to a 24-14 win. Now, with a quick turnaround to Sunday’s pivotal NFC East match-up against Dallas, the Eagles road to the playoffs looks much rockier than it did heading into the weekend.

Joe Webb, starting for injured quarterback Brett Favre, put on a show in Philadelphia as he led the Vikings to the upset win. Webb was the picture of a dual-threat quarterback, eluding the rush to find open receivers downfield or taking off and breaking a big run.

The Minnesota defense was up to the task of stopping the potent Eagles offense, holding Vick in check for much of the game. With the Eagles in control as the second quarter wound down, the Vikings forced a Vick fumbled, returning it 50 yards for the touchdown to tie the game heading into halftime. Again it was the Vikings coming up big in the third quarter, striping Vick as the Eagles were driving to make it a one-score game.

Webb finished with 195 yards through the air while adding 31 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Adrian Peterson ran for a game-high 117 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Percy Harvin caught seven passes for a game-high 100 yards.

Vick, hobbled by a sore ankle towards the end of the game, finished with 263 yards, one touchdown and an interception through the air while adding 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground. LeSean McCoy rushed for 44 yards and Brent Celek caught 10 passes for 97 yards. Jeremy Maclin added six catches for 74 yards.

The Eagles fell to 10-5 with the loss. The Eagles misfortune was the Chicago Bears gain as they Bears locked up the No. 2 seed in the NFC with the Philadelphia loss. The Vikings improved to 6-9 with the win.
