The Eagles had an extra two days to prepare for the Vikings, but it didn't matter. Joe Webb was too much for the Philly defense to handle, and Michael Vick couldn't overcome an early injury, as he struggled all night long, and the Eagles lost their chance at a first-round bye. And that's okay.
Vikings Vs. Eagles: The Eagles Lose Their Bye Week, But All Is Not Lost
As SB Nation’s Eagles blog, Bleeding Green Nation, writes after the loss:
Obviously, the desired outcome was an Eagles win, keeping hope alive for a first round bye. Had the Eagles beaten the Vikings, they still would have had to have beaten the Cowboys next week, and had the Packers take care of business against the Bears. That's now out the window. Gone. Forget it. If you're the Eagles, there's no use dwelling on it - You move on and prepare for the first round of the playoffs.
And as far as preparation for the playoffs is concerned, the Eagles are in better shape than you might think. Week 17 is essentially a bye week now, and their likely opponents for the first two rounds will be Green Bay and Chicago. It’s not ideal to be playing on Wild Card weekend, but it’s not impossible for them to make the best of it.
