The Pittsburgh Steelers weren't supposed to win this game. With 3:22 remaining in the game, the Ravens had the ball and a 10-6 lead. With the way their defense has been playing there's no way they lose the game, right?
Steelers Vs. Ravens: Troy Polamalu’s Forced Fumble Was A Game-Changer
Wrong. Here’s how Baltimore Beatdown sums it up:
The Ravens had every reason to expect to win this game, as they had the lead and the ball with under four minutes to go. However, rather than running the ball and the clock, they inexplicably decided to throw the ball and All Pro safety Troy Polamalu made a game-changing play, forcing Ravens QB Joe Flacco to fumble the ball which the Steelers recovered deep in Ravens territory.
Phil Simms said after the play that the fumble was on Flacco because he needs to recognize that Polamalu is coming unblitzed. While I agree with that, Flacco had no chance to throw the ball with the speed Polamalu got to the backfield. Flacco’s best chance would have been audibling out of a pass or just going down to protect the ball. In six games between these two teams, Flacco has been hit and fumbled eight times.
Everyone knows what happened after that. Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers went down and scored making it 13-10 Steelers.
It’s possible we haven’t seen the last of these teams as they’re both on their way to the playoffs. Check out Baltimore Beatdown for more on the game.
