Except... If Fireman Ed’s really getting charged with assault for this altercation with a Giants fan, that’s kind of absurd. Nobody wants to perpetrate the angry, abusive, Jets fan caricature more than me, but in the video after the jump, it’s hard to say he did anything wrong.
If shoving an obnoxious fan constitutes “simple assault” in New York state, then those same courts would probably have certain Philly fans tried for genocide. I mean... Come on. Here’s to hoping that Woody Johnson hears of this and sponsors a kickass legal team to argue on Fireman Ed’s behalf. The Jets are immersed in controversy right now, but the least they can do is stick together.
